  Tulsa World March 18, 2004 ST. AMAND -- Gretchen Hills (Flegal) . Gretchen St. Amand was born in Clearfield, PA on January 21, 1926 and passed away Friday, March 12, 2004 in Sand Springs, OK at the home she shared with her husband, William "Bill," after a long valiant battle against leukemia. She left a legacy of love for God and family. She was a loving mother to her children, Barbara Carter (Randy), Cynthia Guillette (Lenny), Sharon Hershow (Jeffrey), Pamela Smithey (Jerry), Deborah Thomas, John St. Amand (Margaret) and Thomas St. Amand (Rebecca). She also took much joy in her 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Bill and Gretchen met and were married in 1946 in Clearfield, PA and shortly thereafter moved to the San Gabriel Valley in Southern California where they raised their children. Religious education was always a priority with the couple, and while they lived in Monrovia, CA, all 7 of their children attended First Evangelical Lutheran School. Gretchen is also survived by: her sister, Nancy Howell of Odessa, TX; many nieces and nephews; and lifelong friends.
