HINSDALE - Helen F. Marshall, 88, of 84 Longview Avenue in Hinsdale died Friday evening at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born on July 26, 1922 in Pittsfield she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Thelma Gunn Bailey. A longtime resident of Hinsdale, she was educated in Dalton and Pittsfield schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School.
She was the wife of former longtime Hinsdale Chief of Police, Ralph B. Marshall, whom she married on October 19, 1940 at Pilgrim Memorial Church. He died on December 19, 2009.
A homemaker, she had worked at one time at General Electric during the war and had also waitressed for many years in the Berkshire's. She was a former member of the First Congregation al Church of Hinsdale. She enjoyed bowling, square dancing and visiting Atlantic City. She was also an avid follower of the Boston Red Sox and had a great love of animals.
She leaves a son; Bruce "Butch" Marshall and his wife, Elise, of Hinsdale, and two daughters; Carol Stoltz and her husband, James, of Flanders, N.J. and Lori Niarchos and her husband, George, of Pittsfield; seven grandchildren; Colleen Marshall, Aimee Marshall, Stacia Richards, Edward Scott Richards Jr., Jim and Michael Stoltz and Donna Stoltz Kali. She also leaves her seven great-grand children; Andrew, Patrice, Anthony, Emily, Devin, Julia and Nicholas. She also leaves her brother and sister-in-law; LaForestt and Judy Smith of Yarmouthport, Mass. as well as her niece; Debbie Kuhn of North Carolina and her two nephews; David Smith of North Carolina and Peter Smith of New Jersey.
She was predeceased by a sister, the late Marian Bailey, who died October 17, 1940.
