MISSOULA - Viola Belle (Hayne) Wood passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Hillside Manor in Missoula. A longtime Park County resident, she was born May 29, 1924, in Chico to Guy Clifford Hayne and Winnie Briggs (Hayne) Carrico.
Viola received her education at Mill Creek Flat School and was a graduate of the Park County High School Class of 1943.
She married Howard J. Wood on Dec. 4, 1943, in Livingston. They were married 66 years until Howard's passing in 2010. Three sons were born to this union: Owen, Irvin and Alvy.
Howard and Viola worked and owned the Coast to Coast store in Livingston for 50 years. Viola was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Royal Neighbors of America.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; son, Alvy; granddaughter, Rachel; and two half brothers, Guy and Randy Hayne.
She is survived by sons, Owen (Patty) Wood of Florence and Irvin (Carol) Wood of Richmond, Texas; grandchildren, Richard (Wendy) of Livingston, Robert (Kelly) of Rockport, Texas, and John (Nicole), Guy, Kris (Sarah) and Colleen of Richmond; 10 great-grandchildren in Texas; two sisters-in-law, Alberta Wood of Springdale and Gladys Schultz of Lacey, Wash.; and a half sister, Rosemary Lewis in North Carolina.
