Landis E. Berg, which occurred July 11 as a result of wounds recieved in action on the French front July 9th. Pfc. Berg entered service Aufust 27, 1942. Assigned to the infantry, he recieved his basic training at Camp Wheeling, Ga.; was sent to Camp Meade, Md. and Fort Blanding, Fla. for further training and spent the summer of 1943 on maneuvers near Nashville, Tenn. He was stationed at Camp Attebury, Ind. from November 1943 until February of this year when he was sent overseas to England and went with the invasion forces there to France. His last furlough was from January 3 to 17 shortly before leaving for overseas. Landis was born at Blair, August 9, 1921. He was confirmed at the Zion Lutheran church by the Rev. T. E. Sweger in May 1936. He attended Blair schools through the grades and graduated from High School with the class of 1940. Following graduation he worked for a short time on a farm and was then employed at the Beaty Egg Dtation until he was called into service. A prother Pfc. Ronald E. Berg was stationed for some time in Ireland but is now believed to be in France. Their only sister, Lieutenant Adeline Berg is with the nurses corps in England where she had contacted both brothers but they had not had an opportunity of seeing each other. Besides the brother and sister overseas and his parents, Landis is survived by two brothers, Alton who with his family resides in Whitehall and Otis at home, and his aged grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arne Berg of Lakes Coulee.
