Ada E. Phipps Ruegamer passed away early Sunday morning Oct. 15, 2005, on her 92nd birthday. She was born Oct. 15, 1913, in Grace, Mont., the daughter of Arthur Adelbert and Mable Viola (Briggs) Congdon.
Ada attended school in Emigrant and Willow Creek. She met Francis Phipps in Willow Creek, and they were married on Sept. 5, 1931, in Bozeman.
They lived in Manhattan until 1950. They moved to Bozeman and then to the Gallatin Canyon. Francis worked there as a section man until he retired. Then they moved back to Bozeman.
Francis died Feb. 25, 1982, during heart surgery in Spokane, Wash.
Ada later married Everett Ruegamer on Jan. 4, 1986. Everett died in December 1992.
Ada enjoyed life, her family and friends. She was active in many clubs and lodges. She was a 50-year member of the Onyx Rebecca lodge No. 75. She also was a member of the Eastern Star, Sweetbrier Lodge No. 49. She had been a member of the Sew and So's club in Manhattan and the Gallatin Canyon women's club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Vera Naomi Baker; her husband, Francis Phipps; and husband, Everett Ruegamer.
Survivors include a sister, Evelyn Arnold of Prescott, Ariz.; daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and Ben Hadaller of Centralia, Wash.; son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Joyce Phipps of Bozeman; three grandchildren, Rebecca Barrett of Longview, Wash., Rodney Brummett of Beaverton, Ore., and Tammy Hutzler of Belgrade; four great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and a long-time friend, Sidney "Hup" Davis of Bozeman.
