Eugene L. Housley, 85, of Athens, died early Tuesday morning, Aug. 18, 2009, at the residence of his daughter in Athens.
A native and lifelong resident of Etowah, he was a son of the late Edward George and Vesta Pearl Dillingham Housley. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving during World War II from 1943-1945. He was retired from General Motors after 19 years of service, and he owned and operated Green's Home for the Aged from 1963-1982.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Etowah, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Genie Sue Morris; two sisters, Louise Phillips and Eula Maye Bennett; and four brothers, Edward, Ernest, Earl and Edward Joe Housley.
Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Tawnya and Scott Hicks of Athens, and Frannie Housley of Estill Springs; two sons, Denzel Housley of Decatur, Ala., and Dan Housley of Ohio; 14 grandchildren; one sister, Estella Carroll of Lake Station, Ind.; and several nieces and nephew
Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday in Green Hill Cemetery.
