  The Country Today July 13, 2008 Gordon Dale Johnson, 82, of Eau Claire, formerly of Whitehall and Pigeon Falls, died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at Sacred Heart Hospital. Gordon was born on Oct. 27, 1925, in the town of Hale, Trempealeau county, to Nels and Mathilda (Rongstad) Johnson. He graduated in 1943 from Lincoln Hill High School in Osseo. Gordon married Janice Heath on Sept.15, 1945, in Strum. Janice preceded him in death on Jan. 7, 1999. In his early years, Gordon farmed in the town of Hale and served on the Town Board. He became town chairman and represented the town on the Trempealeau County Board. As a board member he served on the Highway Commission. In 1975, the County Board elected Gordon as highway commissioner, a position he held until his retirement in 1992. He moved to Eau Claire in 2006. Gordon was an active member of his community, as a 4-H leader, as a member of the Pleasantville Lions Club and in various positions with Elk Creek Lutheran Church. Gordon is survived by his children, Connie McLendon of Eau Claire, Diane (Charles) Brion of Nelson, Gregory (Eileen) Johnson of Pigeon Falls, Mark (Lorrie) Johnson of Eau Claire, Pam (Pat) Holstad of Strum, Jeff (Theresa) Johnson of Eau Claire and Eric (Cas Knoll) Johnson of Chippewa Falls; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Janice, he was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Owen and Richard. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, at Elk Creek Lutheran Church, town of Hale, with the Rev. Terry Lorenz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
