WORCESTER - Raymond S. Stewart, 85, of 507 Main St., a longtime maintenance worker and onetime champion bowler, died Saturday in Salisbury Nursing Center after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Elsie M. (Higgins) Stewart; a son, William R. Stewart of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Donna L. Kimmel of Worcester; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a niece. He was born in Worcester, son of Orin and Elizabeth (Hoyt) Stewart.
He was a maintenance worker at Heald Machine Division of Cincinnati Milacron Inc. for 25 years, retiring in 1978. He was a volunteer for many years for the Salvation Army. He attended First Alliance Church.
Mr. Stewart was once a champion candlepin setter. He was also a champion candlepin bowler for many years, playing in several tournaments, including one sponsored by the Telegram & Gazette.
