HYRUM, Utah - Paul A. Nielsen, 89, passed away peacefully in his Hyrum home on Monday, April 17, 2000. Born Jan. 13, 1911, in Hyrum to David Osborn and Charlotte Temple Allen Nielsen, he was reared and educated in Hyrum. On May 26, 1937, Paul married Eunice Ann Peart in Logan. Eunice passed away on Nov. 10, 1982. He then married Helen R. Richardson on May 2, 1984.
Having lived in Hyrum and Ogden, Paul worked as a general building contractor, stonemason, and rancher. Active in the LDS Church, he served in Scouting, bishopric and numerous other callings. He served as an officiator in the Logan LDS Temple. As a young man, Paul served an LDS mission to California, and later, with his wife, Helen, he served in the Tampa Florida Mission.
Paul is survived by his wife, Helen; children, David (Christa) Nielsen, Farmington, Judy (Bill) Erickson, Logan, Richard (Connie) Nielsen, Paradise, Annette (Karl) Mattson, Littleton, Colo., Mike (Lori) Nielsen, Manti, and Joseph (Sandy) Nielsen, Logan; stepchildren, Delwyn L. (Williamena) Richardson, serving as mission presidents in El Salvador, Verlayne (Grant) Harris, North Ogden, and Danny G. (Brenda) Richardson, Malad, Idaho; 40 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren, 17 stepgrandchildren, 49 step great-grandchildren; and brother, H. Eugene (Dorothy) Nielsen, Bountiful.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eunice; three brothers; five sisters; one granddaughter, Rachel Nielsen; one stepdaughter; and one step great-grandson.
Burial will be in the Hyrum City Cemetery.
