- Find-a-Grave
Frances Marjorie (Marge) Batkin Allen, 90, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2004, at the Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Marge was born July 23, 1913, in Hanley, Staffordshire, England, to George Batkin and Charlotte Mellor Batkin. She was the youngest of seven children. In 1926, at the age of 13, Marge left England for Canada with her parents and her sister Marion. Two years later she, her parents, and older sister were able to leave Canada and join three other sisters, who had immigrated earlier, in Logan.
Marge married Merrill Clair Allen on May 26, 1935 in Coalville, Utah. Their marriage was later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. They lived in Hyrum for a number of years. Subsequently they moved to Ogden, Hyrum again, Pocatello and Boise in Idaho, and then in 1951 to California where they lived in Tracy and Manteca. Following the death of her husband in California in 1980, Marge returned to Logan and eventually moved to Smithfield in 1994.
Marge was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in responsible positions in the Primary and Relief Society organizations.
She had a lovely singing voice and was called upon many times to perform at church meetings, weddings, and funerals.
Marge was preceded in death by five sisters: Ethel Hanson, Eliza Tatler (remained in England), Gertrude Bailey, Charlotte (Lottie) Atkinson, Marion (Mary) Bradshaw, and an infant brother James. She is survived by two sons, Clair L. (Margaret) Allen of Vienna, Virginia, and Robert G. (Patricia) Allen of Jamestown, California; and two daughters, Margene A. Yeaton of Logan and Charlene (Ray) Watts of Logan. Marge has 15 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
