HYRUM -- Phyllis Hansen Savage, 98, of Hyrum, passed away Feb. 8, 2004, in Logan. She was the mother of seven, grandmother of 36, great-grandmother of 86 and great-great-grandmother of two. Her posterity numbered 169, including spouses. She was born Aug. 15, 1905, in College Ward, to Abraham and Mary Ellen Olsen Hansen. Her mother died when Phyllis was 5 years old. She married Gordon C. Savage in Logan on May 31, 1929. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on Dec. 23, 1931. Gordon and Phyllis farmed in Hyrum, where they raised their children. They also had a dairy farm and a chicken farm.
Phyllis has always been active in the LDS Church as a Young Women's leader, Primary teacher, librarian and an ardent temple worker. She and her husband Gordon served an LDS mission to New Mexico to the Lamanites. She was a member of the Cynthia Benson Camp, Daughters of Utah Pioneers and in her early years was very active in PTA. She served as Cache County president of PTA. She was active and served positions in the Cache County Farm Bureau Organization.
She is survived by five sons and one daughter, Laura (Keith) Homer of Roy, Loran Savage of San Luis Obispo, Calif., Don (Ann) Savage of Sandy, Leon (Paula) Savage of Hyrum, Willis (Royann) Savage of Apple Valley, Calif., and Ariel (Jeanie) Savage of Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Dian; her son-in-law, Pete Miller; her daughter-in-law, Gwen; a granddaughter, Liz; and by a beloved grandson, Kim. She is also survived by brothers, Bill, Dell, Norvel and Robert Hansen; and a sister, Rhoda Duce.
