ROY - Mark Allen Nielsen 82, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and best friend to the countless people who love him, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2014. After a sudden illness, loved ones surrounded him when he joined his Heavenly Father.
Mark was born in Hyrum, Utah to Albert and Esther Allen Nielsen. His parents, brothers Errol, Ross, sisters Iris Hill and Diane Frank, preceded him in death.
After serving two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he attended Utah, State University. He worked in various engineering disciplines for Marquardt and Boeing, later retiring as head of Value Engineering after 27 years from Hill Air Force Base.
On September 25 1953, Mark married Rea J. Winward in the Logan LDS Temple. Last month they celebrated their 61st anniversary.
Mark was an active member in the LDS Church, served as a bishop, high counselor, was involved in scouting and various other duties. After retirement, he and his wife loved to travel and tended to a fabric shop. He learned to hemstitch and frequently fixed the blasted things for people worldwide.
Mark was an avid gardener, loved to sing in the church choir and enjoyed striking up an endless conversation with anyone.
Mark Nielsen is survived by his beloved wife, Rea W. Nielsen and their children Allen and (Sherry) Nielsen, Jay and (Camille) Nielsen, Jerilyn and (Steven) Woody, Keith and (Janet) Nielsen, Richard Nielsen and (Jeff Swanson), Melinda and (Kenneth) Hutchenrider, 19 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two more on the way. Also, a brother Eldon Nielsen and sister Muriel Johnson.
