E. Lester Hopkins Jr. 77, long time Boise resident, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008 at St. Al's Hospital. Lester was born in Logan, Utah on Oct. 16, 1931 to Edgar Lester and Grace (Allen) Hopkins.
Lester believed in serving his church, community, and family. He was in the Armed Forces during the Korean War. He served a mission in N. California. His service in the church included Scout and Young Men's leadership, counselor in the Bishopric, High Councilman, as well as many other church callings. He and his wife, Olive completed a service mission at the Bishop's Storehouse, were officiators in the Boise and Idaho Falls Temples, and were recently Ward Missionaries. Lester was the long-time owner of Hopkins Auto Glass retiring in 1993. Lester was the type of person to pitch in and help when there was work to be done. It never mattered whether the person needing help was a family member, friend, acquaintance, or complete stranger--he lived by the "Do unto others..." creed. When there was an opportunity to serve, he would load up his children and work along side them until the job was done. He taught them the value of hard work and faith in God.
Lester is survived by his wife of 53 years, Olive R. (Hunt) Hopkins; and six children, Susan, Gayle (Richard), Bryan (Karina), Cynthia (Edward), Leslie (Greg), James (Lisa); as well as 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Dale and Terry Hopkins.
Lester loved family reunions--and we look forward to our next reunion with him.
