Saratoga Springs -- Dana B. Westcott, Sr., 86, of Saratoga Circle died Monday, December 8, 2003, at Saratoga Hospital due to complications of heart disease and Alzheimers. Born September 13, 1917 in Mechanicville, the son of the late Coulman and Edna (Blanchard) Westcott and member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church, he graduated with honors from RPI in Troy as a chemical engineer and began a 43 year career with the former Westvaco Pulp and Paper Co. He started at the Mechanicville plant as a testing engineer and was manager at the mills closing in 1971, an event that gave him much sorrow.
He was a past president of the Mechanicville Lions Club, the first chairman of the Mechanicville Planning Board, and a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Saratoga County F. Donald Myers BOCES. He was a 50 year member of the American Chemical Society and also earned a membership in Phi Lambda Epsilon, an honorary chemical society. His interests included photography and as an ardent pioneer skier, he was the first president of the Board of Directors of Willard Mountain, Inc., and he enjoyed sailing and boating at his summer home at Cleverdale, Lake George. In later years he worked as an assistant manager and consultant out of Westvacos Wycliffe, Kentucky mill before retiring in 1982 and returning to the area in 1989. He was a member of the Saratoga Golf and Polo Club.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 61 years, Janet Morse Westcott; two children, Claudia Pesino and her husband, David of Saratoga and Dana B. Westcott, Jr. and his wife, Donna of Warrensburg; two grandchildren, Amy M. Westcott, MD of Hartford, CT and David Dana Westcott of Boston; one niece, Trina VanSickle of Saratoga and a nephew, Coulman "Trip" Westcott of Pittsford, VT; a sister in law, Elizabeth Morse of Cambridge, NY; and nephews, George "Chad" Morse of Niskayuna, Richard Morse of Cambridge, MD, Peter Morse of Venetia, PA and Stephen Morse of LaFayette, NY; his cousins, Victor "Mike" Luke of Amelia Island, FL, James Luke of Wayne, NJ, Persis Luke Loveys and Robert Luke of Florham Park, NJ, Jill Curtis Lucas of Rockway, NJ and Charity Curtis Lane of NH.
He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Coulman and Daphne Westcott of Averill Park, and his brother-in-law, George Morse of Cambridge.
