  The Deseret News December 19, 2000 Our loving husband, father, and grandfather, Heber Blake Garside, 83, passed away December 17, 2000 in Sandy, Utah. He was born Dec. 13, 1917 in Magna, UT to Willard George and Bertha Smith Garside. He married Elaine Monson May 19, 1943 in Salt Lake City; their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Heber attended Utah State University, worked in the C.C.C.'s, joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served in the South Pacific as a naval navigator during World War II. He worked and retired as a carpenter and millwright at Kennecott Copper. He was an active member of the LDS Church where he served in many capacities, including as a High Priest. He also served in the Salt Lake and Jordan River Temples, two stake missions, a regional mission among the Cambodians, and a temple mission with his wife, Elaine in the Washington D.C. Temple. Survived by his wife; children, Kim (Don) Gurney, Marsha (Gary) Beck, Jan (Bill) Witsman, Heber Blake Jr. (Susan) Garside, Teren (Ed) Knight, and Nona (Greg) Porter; sister, Rhea Simmons; 27 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, and brother, Paul Garside. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
