Helen Allen, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away at her home on July 26, 2015. She was 95 years of age.
Helen was born on January 12, 1920, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Peter and Anna Tisch. She graduated valedictorian from Columbia Heights High School in 1938 and subsequently attended the University of Minnesota. During World War II, she moved to Los Angeles where she worked at UCLA as a purchasing agent for the Manhattan Project.
In 1945, Helen married Derral Allen of Hyrum, Utah, and in 1956 they settled permanently in Ogden, Utah. A devout Catholic, she was a member of Holy Family Parish.
Helen was a dedicated homemaker who loved to cook, collect antiques, and create beauty within her home. She traveled to Europe, Canada, and Mexico. Helen was always eager for a road trip and enjoyed exploring the scenic back- roads of America. She could recall the details of almost every area she and Derral had visited and became an endless source of information, stories, and memories for her children.
Helen is survived by her husband, Derral; her sister, Dorothy Lehre of Denver, Colorado; her two sons, Derral Jr. (Nikki) and Steven (Terry); her daughter, JoAnn (Teri); five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
