Jay J. Swett of Marshfield died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. He was 78. Mr. Swett was born Nov. 27, 1921, in Eagle River. He attended Eagle River Schools and graduated from Eagle River High School in 1940. He attended Stevens Point State College for two years until he entered the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He served in the 84th Air Depal Supply until 1944. After discharge from the service he returned to Stevens Point College where he received a master's degree in administration.
Mr. Swett began teaching social studies and coaching at Marshfield Junior High School. He remained there and for the last 10 years of his career he served as an assistant principal, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he served on the board and was past superintendant of Sunday School. Mr. Swett served as past president of the Marshfield Teachers Association and served as secretary of the Marshfield Lions Club. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #665 of Marshfield and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1866.
Mr. Swett was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Swett and Loretta (Fielder).
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve; two sons, Keith (Jean) of Seymour and Dean (Teri) of Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (Glenn) Adkins of Scio, Ore., and Ethel Freund of St. Germain.
Burial was in Brooklawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Richfield.
