  The Hartford Courant December 6, 1917 Mrs. Mary Brainard Clark, formerly of this city, died yesterday in New York City of heart trouble. She was the daughter of the late Charles H. Brainard and Mary J. Brainard of this city. Her father was president of the State Bank fom 1865 to his death, about 1890. He built and lived in the old Brainard mansion at No. 119 Capitol avenue. Mrs. Clark was the eldest of four daughters, the only one now living being Mrs. Robert Mowe of New York. Mrs Clark also leaves a niece, Miss Alice Welles a granddaughter of Gideon Welles, secretary of war under President Lincoln. Mrs. Clark visited this city occasionally to see her girlhood friends, her last visit being in 1916.
