Darlys June Theos died on Sunday, May 25, 2008, in Denver, Colo., at the age of 71. She was born on August 10, 1936, in Charles City, Iowa, to Walter and Venus Wood. She grew up in Chicago and graduated from Tuley High School, but her roots remained firmly planted in Trego, where her family lived and farmed during her elementary school days.
She met Charles Theos, and they were married on June 25, 1953. Mrs. Theos was employed as a plant manager for T.F. Washburn, a subsidiary of Purex Corporation, and was the first female plant manager in the history of the corporation. Mrs. Theos also worked hard alongside Charles in their successful family restaurant business.
They retired to Sarona in 1977 and operated the popular J & J Sportsman Resort on Long Lake for 20 years. Mrs. Theos was an active member of the Long Lake Chamber of Commerce, Washburn County Tourism Association, Indianhead Country, and the Long Lake Lutheran Church. Mrs. Theos published the Long Lake Newsletter for many years and served the area as an EMT.
In 1997 after Charles' death, Daryls moved with family to Colorado where she has since resided. While living in Fort Collins, Colo., she devoted many hours as a volunteer at Poudre Valley Hospital doing what she always did best – greeting and helping visitors at the hospital. Mrs. Theos loved people and life in general. She remained an avid Green Bay Packer fan and proud "cheesehead."
In addition to her husband, Charles, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary; her parents; her brothers, Aaron and Loren; and sister, Norma.
She is survived by her daughter, Diana; a granddaughter, Heather Wickstrom; and many nieces and nephews.
Interment will be in Madge Evergreen Cemetery.
