Mrs. Gertrude Hascall Bliss, 85, pioneer, Flint resident, died last night in St. Joseph hospital. Mrs. Bliss and her late husband Chester Bliss, were one time owners of the old Bryant House and the Dresden hotel.
She was born in Flint in 1869 and lived here most of her life. She was graduated from the old Flint high school. She married Mr. Bliss here June 24, 1891, and for a time the couple lived in Detroit.
Returning to Flint they first purchased the Bryant House, later selling it and purchasing the Dresden. Mr. Bliss died in 1938.
Mrs. Bliss was active in the city's civic affairs and was a charter member of the Child Welfare society. She also was on the advisory board of the Junior League and was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal church.
Mrs. Hascall leaves two sons, Douglas E., Flint and Hascall, Detroit, a sister, Mrs. Frank D. Buckingham, Flint; a brother Carlton C. Hascall, Marquette; two grandchildren.

Gertrude Hascall Bliss, Brooks Apartment, E. Kearsley st., age 84, died Monday February 1, 1954, at St. Joseph Hospital.
She was born in Flint Michigan November 10, 1869, daughter of Henry and Isabella Hascall, she was a life resident of Flint. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She was the widow of Chester H. Bliss, former hotel operator who passed away in 1938.
Surviving are: 2 sons, Douglas Bliss of Flint, Hascall Bliss of Detroit; 2 grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Frank Buckingham of Flint; brother Carlton Hascall of Marquette, Mich.
