Ruth Sharol Everts Nephew Baxter LaFord, 77, formerly of Sault St. Marie, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 4. Ruth recently moved to Saginaw to be near family due to health issues and died at Heartland of Saginaw as a result of a stroke. Ruth was born May 16, 1930 in Vassar, to Cleo and Nellie (Hascall) Everts. She lived in the Vassar area until moving to the "Soo" 18 years ago.
Ruth will be joyfully remembered by her six children: Sharol Nephew Burd (Jack), of Saginaw; Jim Nephew (Nancy), Philip Nephew (Audrey) both of Tuscola; Lexi Baxter Welch of Midland; Luann Baxter Atherton (Leonard), of Saginaw; and Shawn Baxter (Chris) of Prescott, Arizona. She is survived by a husband, Charles LaFord, Sault St. Marie; brothers, Richard Everts (Anita), Upper Lake, CA; and David Everts (Jodi) Caro. She also leaves 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, 'Susi-Sue'. Her reunion in heaven included her husband, Rex Baxter; her parents, her brothers Robert Everts and Donald Everts, his wife Sheila and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Everts.
Ruth and her husband Charles owned the "Walk Softly" moccasin shop in Frankenmuth for many years which gave her great satisfaction. Music was an integral part of Ruth's life; she was blessed with talented hands. She was an accomplished organist and pianist, knit wonderful sweaters for her grandchildren; sewed dresses, doll clothes and Raggedy Anns and Andys for the family-she also had the patience to teach these skills to her children. Her most important achievement in life was to teach her children about God and how to pray-this legacy will live on forever.
