Roberta L. "Bert" Piatt, 68, of Des Moines, died Monday, April 9, 2007, of respiratory failure at Iowa Methodist Hospital. Born March 13, 1939, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of Arthur and Jessie Mills. On Dec. 31, 1960, she married Louis F. Piatt.
Mrs. Piatt was a nurse at Iowa Methodist Hospital for about nine years. In 1972, she was hired by Bankers Life Co., later Principal Financial Group, as the first medical claims reviewer with a medical background. She retired in 2001 and worked part'96time as a sales associate for Younkers in Merle Hay Mall.
She received her registered nurse degree at Iowa Methodist School of Nursing. She and her husband moved from Mount Pleasant to Des Moines, where they remained except for a short sojourn to southern California.
She was active in the Sweet Adelines barbershop chorus, where she sang bass. She was a member of the Madrid Royal Mix of Red Hatters. She enjoyed camping, traveling, and was an avid collector.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Brett Piatt and Brad Piatt; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Piatt's body was cremated.
