Jay Houtz, 67, passed away suddenly at his home in Tooele on January 18, 1992. Born August 3, 1924 in Mapleton, Utah, the eldest child of Leslie Birch and Zona Chapman Houtz. Married Vona Roper, 1946; later divorced. Married Jeannette Rodgers January 3, 1974 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Served in the U.S. Navy World Ward II, past Post Commander of Roosevelt American Legion and Orem VFW Post. Formerly a policeman for Roosevelt City. Retired from Tooele Army Depot 1987. Jay enjoyed square dancing and was an active member of the Mavericks Square Dance Club. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, leatherwork and puttering.
He is survived by wife, Jeannette, Tooele; children, DeeAnn Benson, Gary L. Houtz, Eric J. Houtz, and Randy K. Houtz; step-daughters, Pat Bindas, and Dallas Cunningham; seven grandchildren; brothers, Duane, Blaine, and Lyle; sister LaDonna Rawlings.
