  The Hartford Courant December 19, 2000 Payson Merrill Corbiere, 27, died Friday, (December 15, 2000) at his home in Weston, MA after a long illness. He was born in Hartford. Payson achieved national acclaim as an NCAA All American Swimmer and was captain of the team at Ohio Wesleyan University, class of 1996. While a member of the class of 1992 at Weston High School, he was named to the Boston Globe All Scholastic Swim Team and was the recipient of the Dana Carter Memorial Award, awarded to a senior who has contributed significant service or leadership over a long period of time, met extraordinary challenges and displayed a superior degree of individual initiative and commitment thereby enriching the school community. Recently Payson returned to help coach the current team at Weston High. Until 1999 he was a merchandising manager in the corporate headquarters of Abercrombie and Fitch in Columbus, OH. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his sense of humor, his strength, his courage, and by his devoted doctors and nurses for the stoicism and resilience he maintained and the life he continued to live in the face of hemophilia, AIDS and liver disease. He is survived by his mother, Dotty; and his sister, Caitlin of Weston, MA; his father, Adrian of Reston, VA; and his girlfriend, Tia Grzymkowski of Pittsburgh, PA. He also leaves his grandmothers, Marian Ferguson of Essex, and Emeline Corbiere of Salisbury; his aunts, Marian and Jane Ferguson; and his loving Hawkins and Ritzman cousins; and a uncle, John Corbiere.
