Found Body in Creek
Miss Minnie Parker, a lifelong resident of Arcade, whose family has been prominently identified with the history of Arcade from pioneer days and who has made a warm place in the hearts of many friends, while temporarily insane, threw herself into a deep pool in the Cattaraugus Creek and was drowned Tuesday morning. She has been ill for some time and constant worry over her condition is supposed to have unbalanced her mind. About five o'clock Tuesday morning she left the house of Dr. G. G. Davis on Pearl street, where she and her brother, Wells Parker have been staying for a week, on account of Mr. Wells serious illness. Her absence was discovered, a few minutes afterward, and a search in the immediate neighborhood and up East Main street, where her home has been for a number of years, but no trace of her could be found. The scope of the search gradually widened and searching parties went out to look about 9 o'clock. D. H. Bray, Frank Carter and W. S. Davis, who made up one of the search parties, discovered the body lying in the water of Cattaraugus creek in a pool in the rear of Stanley Hatch's farm on East Main Street. She was completely clothed, with the exception of her hat and coat, which were found on the bank about 20 feet further up the stream from the position of the body. The coat was neatly folded and laid away carefully behind a large stone together with her hat.
Interment in Arcade Rural cemetery in the family plot.
Deceased was 49 years of age. She was born in Arcade, the daughter of Philander Parker and his wife Betsy N. Wells Parker. She was very highly esteemed by all who knew her and her sudden death in this totally unexpected manner is a sad shock to her many friends.
She is survived by one brother Wells Parker who is very ill at the home of Dr. Davis and by a number of distant relatives, the nearest being Mrs. Davis, a niece.
