Elbert was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Patsy Elliott, and his sister, Lois Daugherty. Surviving are his children, Thomas Elliott and Jeri (Michael) Piehl; grandchildren, Evan Elliott, Molly Piehl, Ian Wright, Jodie Piehl and Alexander (Ally) Piehl; brother, Richard (Marilyn) Elliott and sister, Ruth Ewing.
