Frederick Delmont "Fred" Tootell (September 9, 1902 - September 29, 1964) was an American athlete who competed mainly in the hammer throw.
He competed for the United States in the 1924 Summer Olympics held in Paris, France in the hammer throw where he won the gold medal.

WAKEFIELD (A/P) - Fred Tootell, 62, former track coach at the University of Rhode Island and Olympic Gold Medal winner, died Tuesday night after being rushed from his Kingston home to South County Hospital.
Tootell had resumed coaching the varsity tennis team at the university two days ago. Born in Lawrence, Mass., he was graduated from Bowdoin College in 1923, where his specialty was the hammer throw. He was also a tackle on the varsity football team.
At URI, his cross country teams had 18 unbeaten seasons and won the NCAA title in 1941 and his track teams had 17 undefeated seasons and won seven straight Yankee Conference championships. He was appointed director of athletics in 1953 and resigned July 1, 1962.
Tootell is survived by his widow, Lucy, and three daughters.
