Natalie Tootell Oliver November 6, 1928 - October 28, 2016 Resident of Santa Cruz
A ceremony will take place in Rhode Island for Natalie Oliver who passed away peacefully at her home in Santa Cruz this past Friday. Natalie was born in Providence, Rhode Island to Frederic "Del" Tootell and Anne Parsons.
Natalie was proud of her degree from Stanford University in 1950 and later earned her Master's Degree in Sociology from San Jose State University, as well as, a secondary teaching credential in history and Spanish. She worked for more than 15 years as an engineering planner on the B2 Stealth Bomber with Northrup-Grumman. In retirement, Natalie used her education and Spanish background to tutor middle school students with limited English proficiency. Natalie moved from Huntington Beach to Santa Cruz 17 years ago to be closer to her grandchildren and made friends playing bridge, participating in the Democratic Women's Club and the American Association of University Women. Natalie loved politics and had fun going to President Clinton's inauguration. She also was a strong supporter of education. She continually kept her mind sharp by challenging herself with crossword and Sudoku puzzles.
She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law: Michael and Vickie Oliver of Capitola, and Keith and Lynn Oliver of Littleton, Colorado. Natalie also leaves her two grandchildren, Shelby and Sean Oliver; her brothers and sisters; Geoff H. Tootell of San Jose; Hugh Brady of Point Arena; Joan Tootell of Gloversville, NY; Diana Harvey of North Kingston, Rhode Island, and Karen Boisvert of North Scituate, Rhode Island.
She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Sean Oliver in 1979. She will be laid to rest beside her father Fred D. Tootell and son Sean, at Fernwood Cemetery in Kingston Rhode Island in a private ceremony.
