BAYARD — Lois B. Hascall, 67, of Bayard, Neb., formerly of Torrington, Wyo., died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard after a courageous and lengthy battle with diabetes. Although frail, she was very determined and strong.
A funeral will be held at a later date. Memorials to the family would be appreciated. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.bbchapels.com . Bayard Memorial Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.
Lois was born on Dec. 23, 1941, in Bayard, the second daughter of Wayne and Esther (Snyder) Chapman. She attended school in Bayard graduating in 1960. On May 27, 1960, she married Eugene Hascall of Bridgeport, Neb. They made their home in Torrington, and to this union, three children were born.
Lois loved children, singing, and doing artwork. She was an extremely generous person. She attended EWC and went on to teach at Head Start and later Valley Christian School. In 1982, she opened her own Daycare Center. A few years later she closed the daycare center to do private in home day care. She and Gene also were foster parents for 12 years to many physically and mentally challenged children.
She had a beautiful voice and inspired others with special musical solos and performances in churches, weddings, and other events. She was also a Sunday school teacher.
In 2004, her failing health forced her to enter the Chimney Rock Villa in her hometown of Bayard, where she was and inspiration and friend to the residents and staff.
She is survived by her husband, Gene of Torrington; daughter, Gayle Hascall and her children, Jeron (Cristal) Hascall, Chandler Hascall, Chapman Hascall and Tiana Hascall and great-grandson, Hype Hascall all of Torrington; son, Glenn (Nancy) Hascall and their children, Alyssa and Ryan of Mead, Kan.; daughter, Jocelyn and her fiance, Greg Brown of Yoder, Wyo.; her mother, Esther Chapman of Bayard, whom she shared a room with at Chimney Rock Villa; two sisters, Joyce (Rod) Trussel of Bayard and Jeanie (Lee) Arehart of Kearney, Neb.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Chapman; grandmother, Blanche Snyder; in-laws, Glenn and Ruth Hascall of Bridgeport; and multiple other family members.
She has passed her love of children and her selfless giving to her daughter, Gayle and grandson, Chapman; her gift of art to grandsons, Jeron and Chandler and great-grandson, Hype; her loving spirit to her granddaughter, Tiana; her love for doing crafts to daughter, Jocelyn; and her love of the Lord to son, Glenn and his family; her faith, stamina and generosity is a legacy left to her entire family.
