Judith Clark Gracey Haskell died at home on Wednesday, December 30, 2009. She was the beloved wife of the late Benjamin Guion Haskell and the daughter of the late F.P. Gracey and Judith Bright Gracey. She was born in Augusta, GA, March 3, 1916, and was graduated from Tubman High School, the Junior College of Augusta, and Agnes Scott College. She was married on April 7, 1942, and moved to Woodlawn, the Haskell home in Aiken County, where she lived until her death.
She is survived by her three daughters: Laura Haskell Phinizy (Stewart) of Augusta; Judith Haskell McCarthy (Kevin) of Winter Park, FL; and Mary Bright Haskell Parker (John) of Aiken, SC. She is also survived by six grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Laura Phinizy Jones (Keith) of Washington, DC, and their two children; Louise Phinizy; Marion Phinizy Gash (Wesley) of St Simon's Island, GA, and their two children; Bradford Guion Parker; Charles Claiborne McCarthy and Anne Guion McCarthy as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was a member of St. Paul's Church where she was a founding member of St. Paul's Wedding Guild. She was a member of the Wayside Garden Club and The National Society of Colonial Dames of America, Augusta Town Committe
Grannie, as she was affectionately known, was an avid golfer in her youth and later years. She loved to garden and to share her vegetables with her friends and neighbors. Her Sunday night suppers for her children, grandchildren and their friends were a tradition that is fondly remembered in the community. Her home was always open to visiting friends and family.
