Herbert S. Philbrick Jr. of Bloomington, Ind., a resident of Evanston from 1912 to 1992, died Sept. 17 at Hospitality House in Bloomington. He was 88. Born April 27, 1912, in Columbia, Mo., he was a graduate of Evanston Township High School and received a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University in 1934.
During World War II, he served as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Philbrick was the manager of the vacuum process division of John Mohr and Sons Co. He served six years on the board of directors of the Evanston Historical Society. He was a member of First Baptist Church, now Lake Street Church, in Evanston.
Survivors include his wife, Doris (nee Bollenbacher); son Herbert S. Philbrick III of Chesteron, Ind.; daughter Katherine Ewen of New Haven, Conn.; and four grandchildren.
Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Bloomington.
