Lewiston - Evelyn O. Wardwell, 81, a resident of Sunset Gardens Mobile Park, Lewiston, for the past eight years, died unexpectedly Monday morning at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center Emergency Room. She was formerly a resident of Carthage for eight years and Lisbon Center for many years.
She was born in Auburn, Oct. 4, 1913, daughter of Ralph and Goldie Miller Hascall. She was educated in the Litchfield schools and graduated from Litchfield Academy in 1931. She also graduated from the former Bliss College in Lewiston.
In August of 1937 she was married to Kenneth Wardwell who died in February 1986. Mrs. Wardwell had been employed for over 25 years at Bates Cillege in Lewiston. For a number of years she was employed in the college bookstore and library, she later was in charge of the college post office for over 20 years.
For many years she made her home in Lisbon and Lisbon Center. Prior to moving to Carthage 16 years ago she had lived on the Lisbon Road in Lisbon Center. She was also a winter resident of Florida, where she enjoyed her home in Land of Lakes. She attended the Lisbon United Methodist Church, Lisbon Falls. Among her interests were reading, sewing, knitting and crocheting.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. William (Charlotte) Mullen and a son, Carlton both of Lewiston; three grandchildren, Joyce Hinkley, Kenneth and Bruce Mullen; six great grandchildren, Christopher and Joey Hinkley, Brandon, Kyle, and Chelsea Mullen and Cassandra. She was predeceased by a sister, Shirley and two brothers, Ralph and Frank Hascall.
