  The Portland Press Herald / Maine Sunday Telegram March 14, 2009 SOUTH PORTLAND -- Lois A. Rich, 76, of South Portland passed away peacefully on March 11, 2009, at her home with her family by her side. She was born on Aug. 28, 1932, in Portland, the daughter of Bruce Hascall and Evelyn Hascall Bayliss. Lois lived in Scarborough and attended school there. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Hallamore Trucking while raising her children in South Portland. She was known as 'Mom' to many neighborhood kids, and was famous for her casseroles and an open door to any of them who dropped by. This was a bond that lasted the rest of her life. She enjoyed music, animals, gardening and especially spending time on Long Island with her husband Doug, the love of her life. She had a witty sense of humor and enjoyed fun times with her family and friends. Lois was predeceased by her husband, Douglas Rich of 36 years; her son Lonny Newcomb; and her brother Norman Hascall. Lois is survived by her daughter Julie Newcomb of South Portland, her son Douglas Rich Jr. of Windham; a sister Nancy Fernald of Yarmouth, and a brother Jackson Bayliss of Bisbee, Ariz., a step-son and daughter Zoeth Rich ll of Long Island and Cherlene Turnull of South Portland; several nieces, nephews; grandchildren; and her beloved dogs that were always by her side.
