  Richmond Times-Dispatch (VA) February 21, 2006 Howard Wesley Richardson Jr., died February 16, 2006. Born August 9, 1926, in Petersburg, Virginia, he was the son of Vallie Woodlief Richardson and Howard Richardson. Wes was a graduate of the College of William and Mary, where he majored in economics and played on the varsity tennis team. Multi-talented, he was one of the co-founders of Swift Creek Mill Playhouse, and was an accomplished, popular portrait artist. In 1965, he went into business in North Carolina and lived in Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach. He sold his interest in Safeguard Business Systems and moved back to Virginia in 1983. He continued painting portraits in Irvington and Richmond. An avid sailor for years, Wes was a member of the Rappahannock River Yacht Club and the Country Club of Virginia. He was a former vestryman at St. Andrews on the Sound Episcopal Church in Wrightsville Beach, and a former board member of Westminster-Canterbury in Irvington. Survivors include his wife, Sally Haskell Richardson; two stepchildren, Anne Hulcher Tollett and Matthew Copeland Hulcher; a niece and nephew, Patricia Curry and Thomas Kidd; four great-nephews, Stephen Curry, Bryan Curry, Edward Kidd and Thomas Kidd III; and a great-niece, Ellen Kidd. Wes was a man of tremendous faith, talent, humor and courage.
