  The Bend Bulletin February 20, 1991 Redmond - Jack Powell a Redmond resident for 16 years, died Monday at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. He was 65. He was a retired as a janitor at Tumalo Elementary school. Mr. Powell was born Oct. 19, 1925 in Heppner to John and Pauline (Walker) Powell. He married Jean Hascall in Dayton, Wash. on October 21, 1952. The family moved to Redmond from Portland 16 years ago. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, earning four silver stripes and the Philippines Liberation Medal. He served on the USS John D. Henley and fought at Okinawa. Mr. Powell rode in the Pendleton roundup and other rodeos. He was a first lieutenant in the Deschutes County Search and Rescue and a pilot for Redmond Civil Air Patrol. Survivors include his wife of Redmond, a son Mike of Bremerton, Wash.; four daughters, Jackie Nesseth of Bremerton, Cindy Powell of Redmond, Mona Pearson of Portland and Bonda Ford of Sunriver; four grandchildren; five brothers, Bob and ED, both of Bend, Ray of Gervais, Paul of Portland and Larry of San Jose, Calif., and a sister, Pauline Powell of Portland. Two sisters and his parents preceded him in death.
