A. Cheves Haskell, Jr., of Harvard, a former corporate director of the IBM Corp. at Armonk, N. Y., died Tuesday in his home of a liver ailment.
Born in Farmington, N.H., he graduated from Dartmouth College in 1952. He began working at the International Business Machines Corp. in 1953, where he became corporate director of policy and development and a vice president of marketing and service. He also worked in the corporation's European, Middle East and East Africa offices and was an administrative assistant to the chief operating officer.
After leaving IBM in1980, he was vice president of Synthetic Fuels Corp. until 1981. He was also a consultant to the Wang and Visicorp computer companies before retiring in 1983 because of illness.
He leaves his wife, Elizabeth Raymond; two sons, Grant of New York City and David of Boston; two daughters, Alexa Hoffman of Guilford, Conn., and Leigh Haskell of Bowdoinham, Maine; a stepson, Edward Mathias of Baltimore; a sister, Sally Meyer of Shelburne; his father, Alexander Cheves Haskell of Melvin Village, N.H.; and four grandchildren.
