- The Hascall family moved to Hawthorne, Iowa in March 1900. In January 1905 they moved to Emerson, Mills, Iowa and lived in the second story of the Tolman Building (later called Shoops) for two and one half years. George worked part time at the retail store owned by his father and brother from 1900 to 1907. He graduated from Red Oak High School in 1906 where he commuted by train on weekends. He purchased the general store and operated it from 1907 until he sold it in 1917. He then from 1917 to 1948. He moved to the Elihu Cheney farm, 1/2 mile south of Emerson in 1924 and lived there until 1948. They purchased a home in Emerson in October 1948 which he sold in 1982 to move into a nursing home in Red Oak with his second wife Elva.
George was a member of the Emerson Baptist Church where he held various offices including deacon emeritus. In 1985 he was listed as having 9 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

George Edwin Hascall was born April 7, 1887, near David City, Butler county, NE. He was the son of John and Hattie Smith Hascall. He had a brother Harvey, and two sisters, Blanche Davis and Mary Abney,, who are deceased.
In 1900, the Hascall family moved to Hawthorne, IA. In 1905, the moved to Emerson. He graduated from Red Oak High School in 1906 by commuting by train on weekends. He purchased the General Store and operated it from 1907 to 1916. On April 27, 1910, he married Grace Cheney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elihu Cheney. They had two sons, Gordon and George Jr.
After selling the store, he farmed from 1917 to 1948. In 1948, they purchased a home in Emerson. His wife, Grace, passed away on May 24, 1965. On April 19, 1967, he married Minnie Klepinger Bell. He sold his home in 1982 and he and his wife moved to the Vista Gardens Nursing Home in Red Oak. His second wife, Minnie, passed away on March 15, 1984.
George was the oldest member of the Emerson Baptist Church which he joined in 1907. He held various offices in the church and was a Deacon Emeritus. He was a member of Humanity Lodge #378 which he had joined in 1914.
George died on December 22, 1987, at the Vista Gardens Nursing Home following an extended illness. He is survived by his two sons, Gordon, and wife Twyla, of Red Oak and George Jr., and wife Leone, of Emerson; also nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.
