DECATUR -- Ermal Howard Hamm, 88, of Decatur, passed away on Wednesday (July 27, 2005) at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Interment with Military Rites by the Macon County Honor Guard will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Ermal was born on November 4, 1916, in Shambaugh, Iowa, the son of Herbert L. Hamm and Nellie (Thompson) Hamm. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during WWII. Ermal married Irmal Higgins on February 17, 1950, in Shambaugh, IA. She preceded him in death on December 10, 1996. He worked as a claims adjuster for L.E. Meyers Construction for 28 years before his retirement. Ermal enjoyed golfing, fishing, woodcarving and traveling and he will be deeply missed by his family and cat Coco.
Surviving are his son Edwin Hamm and wife Kathy of Aurora, CO; son Michael Hamm and wife Sue of Decatur; son Russell Hamm and wife Suk of Aurora, CO; step-daughter Mary Thatcher and husband Tom of Manassas, VA; step-daughter Patricia Merrill and husband Richard of Lakewood, CO; sister Juanita Scott of Hastings, NE; eighteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Darrell and Glenn and one stepdaughter Peggy Petrie.
