  The Record-Courier (Gardnerville, NV) June 19, 2002 Doris Winans owned California and Nevada furniture stores with husband Mrs. Winans died June 6, 2002. She was born June 3, 1919, in Dillon, Mont., to Fred and Mae Crampton, who were ranchers and homesteaders outside Dillon until the late 1980s. In 1930, the family moved to Stockton, Calif., where Mrs. Winans attended first through eighth grade at August School. In 1939, she graduated from Red Bluff High School and married Charlie Winans on July 5. In 1989, the couple celebrated their 50th anniversary at Walley's Resort and Hot Springs in Genoa. Mrs. Winans and her husband operated their first furniture store in Alameda, Calif., from 1960 to 1965. Then, while visiting Fallon, they decided to open their first Nevada store. In 1970, they sold the business to their son Jim and his wife Ruth and daughter Linda and her husband Larry Yoder. After retiring and traveling throughout the United States, Mrs. Winans and her husband opened Silver Streak Trailer Franchise in Fallon, followed by the opening of a furniture store in Gridley, Calif., in 1989. When Mr. Winans became ill, they closed that store and moved to Medford, Ore., to be near son Mark, who had a furniture business there. Mrs. Winans moved back to Fallon in 1994, where she was a member of Silver Sage Bible Church. Mrs. Winans was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Winans, brother Bill Crampton and son Mark Winans. Survivors include brother Glenn of Willits, Calif.; sons Jim Winans of Gardnerville and Phil Winans of Reno; daughter Linda Yoder of Fallon; grandchildren Scott Winans of Gardnerville, Andrew Winans of Minden, Tiffiny Mckie of Dallas, Texas, Cathy Loser of Gardnerville, Justin Yoder of Fallon, Charlie Winans and Jimmie Winans, both of of Portland, Ore.; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
