  Cape Cod Times (Hyannis, MA) May 14, 2007 HYANNIS - Marie Alma (Day) Kirby, 84, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2007, at Cape Cod Hospital, after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Robert Fredrick Kirby, who passed away in 1999. Marie was born in Leominster, the daughter of the late Milford Carlton and Elida Pauline (Eliasen) Day. Marie and her husband bought their first summer home on the Cape in 1954, and moved here permanently in 1971. Although she had a number of careers throughout her life, she was most proud of having worked for JFK's uncle, "Honey" Fitzgerald, after World War II. JFK, a young congressman, would come in at times and Marie would take dictation for him. Aside from her family, Marie enjoyed her church, the Federated Church of Hyannis, socializing with her friends, traveling, reading, baking, home decorating, and watching the Red Sox beat the Yankees. She was proud to be the descendant of two Mayflower ancestors and many Revolutionary War ancestors. She is survived by her four daughters, Arlene Richner of Plymouth, Kathleen Kirby of Hyannis, Roberta Kirby of Wareham, and Jennifer Laverdy of Burke, Va.; her brother, George Day of Richardson, Texas; sisters, Marilyn Chartrand of Salisbury, Md., and Roberta Steinmetz of Lynwood, Wash.; grandchildren, Derek and Kirk Richner and Shelley McCormack, Catharine and Christopher Milholo, Rebecca Souza and Christina Lopes, and Robert and Sara Laverdy; and 11 great-grandchildren.
