SIDNEY - Alfred J. "Mike" Marceau, 83, of Sidney, passed away peacefully at the Maine Veterans' Home in Augusta on Sept. 19, 2012, after a long illness. He was born in Augusta on Nov. 20, 1928, the only son of Napoleon and Harmonia (Dostie) Marceau. Mr. Marceau served honorably in the Army during World War II.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Bates Manufacturing Co., Edward Division, for many years. When the mill closed he went to work for the Belgrade School Department.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Le Club Calumet of Augusta, very active in the Cushnoc Senior Citizens Club and a longtime member of the Trailblazers of Augusta.
In his younger years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his wife and the love of his life, Shirley A. (Bumford) Marceau; his parents; and his only sister, Carmeline M. Plourd.
Surviving is his son, Jeffery Marceau and his wife, Deborah, of Belgrade; two granddaughters, whom will always remember him as Pep: Sarah Marceau and Vanessa (Marceau) Humphrey and her husband, Mike, both of Waterville; and two great-grandsons.
