Gary Eugene Stay passed peacefully surrounded by his wife and four children on March 19, 2010 in Provo, Utah. He was born November 15, 1929 in Huntington Park, California; the second son of Hobert Bailey Stay and Velva Sedonia Jensen Stay.
Gary grew up in California along with his older brother Hobert Lee, and his younger sister Donavee. He graduated from Montebello High School. Gary served in the US Army during the Korean War as a Communications Specialist. He continued using his ham radio experience all of his life.
He married Laura Callis Summerhays, October 5, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have four children. Gary and Laura raised their family in Denver, Colorado. Gary was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in any calling he was given. At the time of his death, he was assisting in teaching the new Family Search Program. Gary was a genealogist and firmly believed in family history - a legacy he expects his children to carry on. Gary earned an MBA at the University of Denver and worked in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He also managed a home for the aged. Gary also was in Hospital Administration. He spent 10 years working with Intermountain Healthcare as a planner and Administrator. Dad had a special gift for making friends and loved everyone he met, no matter who they were or where they came from. Gary and Laura served two missions, in Guatemala, and in Ecuador. They loved the people they served and those they served with. He also served as a volunteer for the Church in Hawaii.
Gary is survived by his wife, Laura, his four children, Paul (Diane) American Fork, UT, Carl (Nancy), New Berlin, WI, Sandra, Denver, CO and Katherine, Provo, UT; 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his sister Donavee, Oceanside, CA and many other loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lee. Dad, we look forward to the day when we can gather again for another Grandpa Fido Story.
