  The Deseret News July 27, 1995 Hazel Lorene Spencer Hakes, 76, passed away July 25, 1995 at her home in Lehi. She was born January 30, 1919 in Malad City, Idaho, a daughter of William Walter and Amelia Whitehead Spencer. Married F. Russell Hakes June 7, 1943 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She graduated from BYU in 1940 with a degree in Home Economics Education. She taught school in Salem; Springville; McCook, Nebraska; Malad City, Idaho; Snowflake, Arizona; and Lehi, Utah. She retired in 1984 after having been the Lehi High School librarian for 25 years. She was an active member of the LDS Church having served on the stake boards of the Primary, Relief Society, and Young Women. She also served as Relief Society President, and in the presidency of the ward Primary and Young Women. She also served as a teacher in all of the church organizations. She is survived by her husband, Russ and children, Lorene Worlton (David), of Lehi; Russell Alan Hakes (Laraine) of Hockessen, Delaware; and Kenneth Leigh Hakes (Toni) of Sandy, Utah; 17 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; brothers, Joseph W. Spencer, Loren J. Spencer, Melvin R. Spencer and Ralph W. Spencer, and sister, Emma Ward.
