Frank Gabler passed away February 16, 2001. He was born in Portland, OR in 1930 and grew up in remote logging areas on the Oregon Coast Range. He graduated from a two-room grade school and a two-room high school to become a logger and a fishing guide. A logging injury forced him "out of the woods" to Corvallis.
While in Corvallis, Frank served as a fireman and ambulance paramedic for several years. Then, joining an electric utility, he started his career as a lineworker and made his way through the organization to become purchasing agent. He was very active in civic affairs as chairman of the county Red Cross and through his church as Commissioner of Missions, but most importantly, in Boy Scouting.
Joining General Electric Lamp Business Division in 1961 as a Manufacturer's Rep., he transferred with them from Portland to Salt Lake City in 1976. As a twenty-six year veteran of Boy Scouting, Frank led boys to two national jamborees as a scoutmaster and holds their coveted Silver Beaver Award. He is a Mason, a Shriner, and past Patron of the Order Of The Eastern Star. He is past president of the Intermountain Electrical Assn., and twice past president of the Illuminating Engineering Society.
His greatest love, after his family, was in teaching. He was a guest lecturer on a regular basis at three Utah Universities and taught lighting to countless formal classes in Utah. He was voted the Outstanding Factory Rep. Of the year in 1985 and again in 1986.
After 25 years with General Electric, Frank retired to become Sales Manager and Lighting Trainer with Debenham Electric. This took him to several states and a great deal of time in Alaska. Following his time with Debenham he then became Sales Manager with Mountain Mechanical Services. He also served as Chairman of the Lighting and Electrical Five Mountain Rendezvous. He was recently honored by the Intermountain Electrical Assn. with the Delmar Holt Service to Industry Award.
Frank married his wife, Helen, in 1981 and they have two sons, Seth and Sean. He has two sons, David and Todd, from a previous marriage. His marriage to Helen was and is a major point in his life. He loved her exclusively and purely.
Survivors include his sons, Seth and Sean Thomas, David and Todd Gabler; a sister, Eleanor West, Tucson; and a brother, Edward Martin, Forest Grove, OR.
Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
