Owen L. Ballard, 89, of Correctionville passed away Wednesday, March 10, 1971, at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness. He had been a resident of the Valley View nursing home in Correctionville for the past three years. Prior to this he had resided in the Washta and Galva communities. He had been a maintenance man for the Illinois Central Railroad for many years.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 13, in the chapel of the Valley View nursing home in Correctionville with Rev. C.W. Kerns officiating. Interment was in Grand Meadow Cemetery south of Marcus under direction of Boothby Funeral Home of Cherokee.
Mr. Ballard was born September 26, 1881, in Tama Co., Iowa. He married Maggie Whitmer February 21, 1906, at Pierson. He was a member of the Washta United Methodist Church.
Survivors include the widow, a son Lloyd of Cherokee, a daughter, Mrs. Pearl Whisman of Bertha, Minnesota, a sister, Mrs. Lola Simmons of Rapid City, South Dakota, and two grandchildren.
