  The Correctionville News 27 April 1972 Mrs. Owen Ballard, 88, passed away Sunday, April 16, 1972, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Correctionville where she had been a resident for four years. Prior to that time she had lived in the Galva and Washta area Mrs. Ballard, the former Maggie Whitmer, was born June 12, 1883, in Clinton, Iowa. She married Owen Ballard February 21, 1906, in Pierson. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washta. Mr. Ballard passed away March 10, 1971. Survivors include a son, Lloyd of Cherokee, a daughter, Mrs. Pearl Whisman of Kingsley, two grandchildren, a brother, Orville of Galva, and a sister, Mrs. Maude Baker of Pierson. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, at the United Methodist Church in Washta with Rev. Melvin Reth officiating. Burial was in the Grand Meadow Cemetery, Washta, under direction of Boothby Funeral Home of Cherokee.
