Irene Haskell, 79, died May 27 at Eastern Maine Medical Center.She was born on Peaks Island in Portland, a daughter of John and Rose Stimpson, and graduated from Portland High School and the Portland School (now Maine College) of Fine Arts.
She spent most of her adult life in Portland and South Portland, where she worked at South Portland Junior High School, Carolyn's Caterers and waitressed in the area. She loved her family, gardening, painting and nature walks.
Her husband, Robert Haskell, died in 1980 and a grandson, Matthew Thompson, died in 1992.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Rose) Thompson of Addison; one brother, Jack Stimpson of Connecticut; one granddaughter, RaeAnn of Teixeira, Mass.; two grandsons, Mark and Michael Thompson, both of California; and six great-grandchildren.
