  The Times Argus (Montpelier-Barre, VT) December 30, 2002 GROTON, VT: Guy Rodney Haskell, 84, of 402 Scott Highway, died Friday Dec. 27, 2002 at Brookside Nursing Home, Bradford, VT. He was born March 12, 1918 the son of George and Vesta (Carpenter) Haskell. He married Carolyn Aris Hooper on October 15, 1939. Mr. Haskell served with the United States Marine Corps during WW II. He was in the 4th Division, 25th Regiment landing at Iwo Jima the morning of February 19, 1945. His division was to capture the air strips for the bombing of Japan. His mission was to keep the outfit supplied with ammunition and supplies as they advanced. He had spent nineteen days fortifying the island and on March 26th he was sent to Hawaii. Mr. Haskell was discharged in 1945 having served his country faithfully and honorably. After the war he returned home to work as a lumberer and eventually he went to work for C. R. Davidson Monument Company in South Ryegate, VT, for thirty-four years. Following retirement he sold and delivered cars for Walker Motors in Woodsville, NH. He was an active member of the Groton United Methodist Church, where he often sang solos for different church functions. He was predeceased by a son Guy Duane Haskell; three sisters, Joyce Frost, Faye Jordan, and Shirley Darling; and one brother Glenn Haskell. Surviving relatives include his wife of sixty-three years Carolyn A. Haskell, Groton, VT; two sons, Dana C. Haskell, Worcester, MA and Donald P. Haskell, Tucson, AZ; two daughters, Sharilyn Haskell, Groton, VT and Sharman Ball, Waits River, VT; twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; three brothers, Earl S. Haskell, South Ryegate, VT, Kent Haskell, Groton, VT and Vern Haskell, of New York.
