Tompkins, had lived and worked in Greenfield, Mass., before moving to Maine a few years ago. Born in Springfield, Mass., April 25, 1920, he was the son of Clarence M. and Florence (Dudley) Haskell. Haskell, a veteran of World War II, served as a paratrooper in the South Pacific. He was a supporter of both the Boys Scouts and Little League baseball.
