POCATELLO - Roy B. Johnson passed away in Pocatello on July 17, 2006, at the age of 93 after a long battle with Alzheimer's .
He was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 1, 1913, the third of four children to Gustaf and Erika Johnson. The family soon moved to San Francisco, where Roy grew up and went to Saint Mary's Community College.
Roy married Helen Newton on the Newton family ranch in Inkom, Idaho, on May 28, 1937.
Roy served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He became an insurance adjuster for the Home Insurance Company after the war, and he and his family lived in Oakland and Walnut Creek until 1958. They moved back to Idaho to help out with the family ranch, and where he worked for General Adjustment Bureau, Yellowstone Adjusters and finally, Intermountain Claims. In addition to working as an insurance adjuster, he and Helen ran the Pine Cone Ranch.
Roy treasured the time he spent with his family. He loved the outdoors, working with his racing quarter horses, registered polled Herefords, skiing, hunting, fishing and flying. In his later life, he enjoyed golf, handball, racquetball and camaraderie with his many good friends.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Helen Newton Johnson, by 11 days. He is survived by his daughter, Sandralu Hoffman-Prior ; and three grandchildren, Scott, Dan and Kristen.
